Stem Cell Related Patent Number US4613459
Title: | Lymphocyte growth factor | Inventors: | Cantor, Harvey I.; Boston, MA, USA
Nabel, Gary; Cambridge, MA, USA | Summary: | Described herein are cell growth factors and methods of their production from inducer T lymphocytes. The invention relates to a family of growth factors and advantages of their use in the in vivo treatment of mammalian cells, as well as methods by which the growth factors are isolated from supernatant fluid that is obtained by incubation of inducer T-cells in the presence of a suitable antigen or mitogen. Further disclosed are properties of the growth factors which include a 14 Kd polypeptide which stimulates the growth of T-cells and B-cells, a 50 Kd polypeptide which stimulates B-cells to multiply and to secrete immunoglobulins, and a 45 Kd growth factor which stimulates the secretion of immunoglobulins by B-cells as well as the rapid growth of certain mast cells, stem cells and other types of cells. Therapeutic applications are included for the treatment of immune disorders. | Abstract: | A family of growth factors, methods of making and using such growth factors in in vivo treatment of living mammalian cells, and products incorporating such growth factors, are disclosed.
The growth factors were isolated from the supernatant fluid obtained by incubation of inducer T-cells in the presence of a suitable antigen or mitogen. The growth factors disclosed include a 14 Kd polypeptide which stimulates growth of both T-cells and B-cells, a 50 Kd polypeptide which stimulates B-cells to multiply and secrete immunoglobulins, and a 45 Kd growth factor which stimulates secretion of immunoglobulins by B-cells and stimulates rapid growth of certain mast cells, stem cells and certain other types of cells. | US Patent Website: | Click Here for Full Text of Patent | Title Number: | US4613459 | Application Number: | US1982000435510 | Date Filed: | 20/10/1982 | Date Published: | 23/09/1986 | Assignee: | Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA, USA |
