Title:Erythropoietic factor
Inventors:Baertschi, Alex J.; Charlottesville, VA, USA
Niskanen, Eero; Charlottesville, VA, USA
Summary:This invention introduces a method for the potentiation of erythropoietin (Epo) using an atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) which has been shown to increase the production of erythroid progenitor cells. Described herein is a process of administering an ANF alone or in combination with Epo such that the ANF potentiates the activity of Epo and causes production of the erythroid progenitors BFU-E and CFU-E. Claims of the invention include the generation of red blood cells at a higher level than if Epo alone is present in the blood stream. Therapeutic applications are included for the treatment of anemia.
