Summary:Described herein is a method of stimulating transplanted bone marrow cells for the protection of such cells after myelosuppressive therapy. The invention relates to the administration of a dithiocarbamate compound which has been shown to counteract myelosuppression that is caused by an anticancer drug given prior to bone marrow transplantation. Further disclosed are methods by which one or more bone marrow cell growth factors having granulocyte and macrophage progenitor cell colony stimulating activity may be obtained and utilized. Therapeutic applications are directed toward the use of such a compound for the protection and stimulation of transplanted cells in a human recipient following myelosuppression from an anti-cancer drug. This invention represents a continuation of other applications filed by the same assignee and inventors.
