Inventors:Caplan, Arnold I.; Cleveland Heights, OH, USA
Haynesworth, Stephen E.; Cleveland Heights, OH, USA
Summary:Described herein are processes for enhancing implantation and differentiation of marrow-derived mesenchymal cells. The invention relates to methods and materials for enhancing the implantation and differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells via their isolation, purification and cultural expansion, after which they are then applied to a substrate surface and a porous carrier which is implanted into an appropriate environment with suitable factors to allow for the differentiation of the mesenchymal stem cells into bone cells. Therapeutic applications are directed toward the treatment of skeletal and other connective tissue injuries and disorders.
Abstract:The present invention is directed to a method and device for enhancing the implantation and differentiation of marrow-derived mesenchymal cells (i.e. mesenchymal stem cells).
