Title:Liver reserve cells
Inventors:Naughton, Brian A.; El Cajon, CA, USA
Sibanda, Benson; Oceanside, CA, USA
Summary:This invention describes isolated liver reserve cells which are able to proliferate and differentiate in vitro. Described herein are liver reserve or progenitor cells and methods with which they are isolated by a density gradient centrifugation so that they may be distinguished from other liver parenchymal cells by their morphology, staining characteristics, high proliferative activity and by their ability to differentiate in vitro. Claims of the invention include the ability of the cells to mediate liver-specific functions. Therapeutic applications are included for the use of such cells in the restoration of hepatic tissue and function.
