| Title: | Administration of an RNA stem loop structure to modulate protein synthesis | | Inventors: | Eberwine, James H.; Philadelphia, PA, USA Spencer, Corinne; Philadelphia, PA, USA
 | | Summary: | Described herein is a method of modulating the synthesis of pro-opiomelanocortin in mammals via the administration of a molecule which is capable of binding to a specific region of the pro-opiomelanocortin. The invention relates to a process by which synthesis of this protein is modulated in a cell or tissue by contacting the cell or tissue with at least a portion of the mRNA stem-loop structure of the pro-opiomelanocortin, which thereby modulates the synthesis. Claims of the invention include increased synthesis of the protein according to this method. Further described are compositions containing the mRNA stem-loop structure and properties thereof. | | Abstract: | A method for modulating synthesis of a selected protein in a cell or tissue by contacting the cell or tissue with at least a portion of a mRNA stem loop structure are provided. Compositions containing a mRNA stem loop structure are also provided. | | US Patent Website: | Click Here for Full Text of Patent | | Title Number: | US5593863 | | Application Number: | US1994000327393 | | Date Filed: | 19/10/1994 | | Date Published: | 14/01/1997 | | Assignee: | Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, USA |
