Stem Cell Related Patent Number US5602007

Title:Recombinant DNA molecules
Inventors:Dunn, Ashley R.; North Balwyn, Australia
Summary:This invention introduces novel DNA sequences encoding a mammalian granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF), methods and uses thereof. Further described herein are associated vectors and hosts of the GM-CSF, as well as methods by which the sequence may be utilized as a probe for identifying related sequences, for selecting GM-CSF encoding mRNA from a mixture of mRNAs, and as a source of GM-CSF DNA for expression in an appropriate vector. Also provided are methods by which a host cell may be cultured and transformed by an expression vector which comprises a promoter that functions in the host and a DNA which hybridizes to the plasmid pGM37 or pGM38 such that the DNA encodes the mammalian GM-CSF and wherein the DNA is in orientation with the promoter such that the mammalian GM-CSF DNA is expressed in the host cell. Experimental and therapeutic applications in the stimulation of macrophage colonies are included.
