Title: | Method and compositions for modulating lifespan of hematolymphoid cells | Inventors: | Weissman, Irving; Redwood City, CA, USA | Summary: | Described herein is a system for increasing the life-span of mammalian hematolymphoid cells in vitro. The invention relates to methods and materials of transforming the stem cells with a construct containing a cell-specific transcription initiator and gene-encoding protein that modifies the life-span of the progeny cells of mammalian hematopoietic stem cells such as the myeloid series of cells. Further disclosed are transgenic nonhuman mammals which produce the transgenic myeloid cells having an altered life-span. Applications are included for the screening of drugs. | Abstract: | Methods and compositions for modifying the lifespan of progeny cells of mammalian hematopoietic stem cells, particularly myeloid series cells, are provided. Transgenic nonhuman mammals also are provided which produce transgenic myeloid cells having an altered lifespan. | US Patent Website: | Click Here for Full Text of Patent | Title Number: | US5614397 | Application Number: | US1994000200016 | Date Filed: | 22/02/1994 | Date Published: | 25/03/1997 | Assignee: | Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior University, Stanford, CA, USA |
