Title:Nucleic acid encoding a novel morphogenic protein, OP-3
Inventors:Ozkaynak, Engin; Milford, MA, USA
Summary:This invention describes a morphogenically active protein, MOP-3, and properties of the nucleic acids encoding it. Described herein are nucleic acid and amino acid sequences encoding the OP3 polypeptide chain, comprising bases 1 to 1674 of Seq. ID No. 1, or a conservative variant thereof. Further disclosed are methods by which the encoded morphogen prodomain polypeptide is found to hybridize under stringent conditions to a sequence complementary to a nucleic acid sequence consisting of bases 120 to 440 of Seq. ID No. 1, or to a conservative variant thereof. Also provided are methods of transfection, culturing, isolation and purification of the dimeric protein. Therapeutic applications are included for the use of this protein in inducing tissue morphogenesis in mammals for the replacement of diseased or damaged tissue in vivo. This invention represents a continuation of other applications filed by the same assignee.
