Summary:Described herein is an isolated morphogenically active dimeric protein, designated MOP-3, methods and uses thereof. The invention relates to nucleic acid and amino acid sequences for MOP-3, and methods by which it may be produced and expressed in a biologically active form. Further disclosed are techniques by which it may be used to induce tissue morphogenesis in a mammal, and to increase a progenitor cell population in a mammal, and to stimulate progenitor cells to differentiate and maintain their differentiated phenotype both in vivo and in vitro. Therapeutic applications are included for the use of this protein in inducing tissue morphogenesis in mammals for the replacement of diseased or damaged tissue in vivo. This invention represents a continuation of other applications filed by the same assignee.
