Okada, Keiji; Tokyo, Japan
Summary:This invention introduces a preparation of freeze-dried blood components, methods and uses thereof. Described herein are products resulting from a process for manufacturing freeze-dried blood cells, stem cells and plateletes via the addition of a pretreatment liquid followed by processes of granulation, cooling, and drying which yield rapidly reconstituted products. Further disclosed are properties of the pretreatment liquid which is selected from the group consisting of blood including blood cells, bone marrow fluid such as hematopoietic stem cells and platelets in blood plasma, in combination with a solution containing at least one substance selected from the group consisting of a saccharide, a biopolymer, an acid and an acid salt. Also provided are methods of granulating the pretreatment liquid into granules of a predetermined size which are cooled after which the resulting frozen material is dried via the sublimation of the water content contained therein. Therapeutic applications for use of the resultant reconstituted products in transfusion are included.
Abstract:The present invention provides a method for manufacturing freeze-dried blood cells, stem cells and platelets comprising the steps of: pre-treating a liquid selected from the group consisting of blood including blood cells, bone marrow fluid (hemopoietic stem cells), and platelets in blood plasma, with a solution containing at least one substance selected from the group consisting of saccharide, biopolymer, acid and acid salt; conducting granulation of the aforementioned pre-treated liquid into a granules of a predetermined size; performing rapid cooling of the granules; and drying the resultant frozen material by sublimation of the water content contained therein.
