Title:Peptidoglycan biosynthetic mura protein from Streptococcus pneumoniae
Inventors:Skatrud, Paul L.; Indianapolis, IN, USA
Peery, Robert B.; Brownsburg, IN, USA
Summary:Described herein is a Streptococcus pneumoniae MurA protein, and methods of its use in the screening of MurA inhibitors. The invention relates to isolated nucleic acid compounds encoding the stem peptide biosynthetic gene MurA of Streptococcus pneumoniae, and associated vectors by which heterologous host cells are transformed for expressing the MurA enzyme. Further disclosed is a kit for identifying compounds that inhibit stem peptide biosynthesis. This invention represents a variation of other applications filed by the same assignee.
Abstract:The invention provides isolated nucleic acid compounds encoding the stem peptide biosynthetic gene murA of Streptococcus pneumoniae. Also provided are vectors and transformed heterologous host cells for expressing the MurA enzyme product and a method for identifying compounds that inhibit stem peptide biosynthesis.
