Title:Peptidoglycan biosynthetic mure protein from streptocuccus pneumoniae
Inventors:Peery, Robert Brown; Brownsburg, IN, USA
Skatrud, Paul Luther; Indianapolis, IN, USA
Summary:Described herein is a Streptococcus pneumoniae MurE protein, methods and uses thereof. The invention relates to isolated nucleic acid compounds encoding the murE stem peptide biosynthetic gene of Streptococcus pneumoniae, and vectors by which heterologous host cells are transformed for expressing the MurE enzyme product. Further disclosed is a method for identifying compounds that inhibit stem peptide biosynthesis and which may be used therapeutically for the screening of anti-bacterial agents. This invention represents a variation of other applications filed by the same assignee
Abstract:The invention provides isolated nucleic acid compounds encoding the murE stem peptide biosynthetic gene of Streptococcus pneumoniae. Also provided are vectors and transformed heterologous host cells for expressing the murE enzyme product and a method for identifying compounds that inhibit stem peptide biosynthesis.
