Summary:Described herein is a recombinant Streptococcus pneumoniae MurG protein encoded by nucleic acid and expressed in host cells. The invention relates to isolated nucleic acid compounds encoding the stem peptide biosynthetic gene MurG of Streptococcus pneumoniae. Further provided are vectors and transformed heterologous host cells for expressing the MurG enzyme product, and applications in the identification of compounds that inhibit stem peptide biosynthesis. This invention represents a variation of other applications filed by the same assignee.
Abstract:The invention provides isolated nucleic acid compounds encoding the stem peptide biosynthetic gene murG of Streptococcus pneumoniae. Also provided are vectors and transformed heterologous host cells for expressing the MurG enzyme product and a method for identifying compounds that inhibit stem peptide biosynthesis.
