Title:Method of preparing a composite bone graft
Inventors:Muschler, George Frederick; Cleveland Heights, OH, USA
Summary:Described herein are composite bone graft preparations, methods and uses thereof. The invention relates to a composite bone graft that is prepared according to a process by which a bone marrow aspirate suspension is passed through a porous, biocompatible, implantable substrate to provide a composite bone graft having an enriched population of connective tissue progenitor cells. Claims of the invention include a reduced number of invasive procedures needed by the graftee as a result of this process which is performed intraoperatively, and an improved composite graft containing an enriched population of connective tissue progenitor cells and a greater number of connective tissue progenitor cells per unit volume than that found in the original bone marrow aspirate. Also provided is a kit including the apparatus used in preparing the composite bone graft. Therapeutic applications are included for a variety of bone related diseases and disorders.
