Stem Cell Related Patent Number US5861483

Title:Inhibitor of stem cell proliferation and uses thereof
Inventors:Wolpe, Stephen D.; Rockville, MD, USA
Summary:This invention describes a polypeptide comprising amino acid residues 1-97 of a full length hemoglobin alpha chain, wherein this full length hemoglobin alpha chain comprises a C-terminal hydrophobic domain, a portion of which has been substituted or deleted, such that more than one hydrophobic amino acid of the domain with a non-polar amino acid involves the deletion of more than one hydrophobic amino acid of the domain. The hydrophobic amino acid is selected from the group consisting of alanine, valine, leucine, proline and phenylalanine, such that the non-polar amino acids are selected from the group consisting of glycine, serine, threonine, cysteine, tyrosine asparagine and glutamine. The polvpeptide thus exhibits improved solubility when compared to the solubility of the full length hemoglobin alpha chain.
Abstract:The present invention provides polypeptides and compositions containing same which include a hemoglobin alpha chain wherein the C-terminal hydrophobic domain has been modified.
