Title: | Method of screening a compound for hematopoietic activity | Inventors: | Scadden, David T.; Weston, MA, USA | Summary: | Described herein are methods of screening a compound for hematopoietic activity. The invention relates to the selection of a population of human cells containing quiescent pluripotent hematopoietic progenitor cells that are substantially free of mature, human myeloid and lymphoid cells. Further disclosed are methods by which a population of quiescent pluripotent progenitor cells are obtained and contacted with various factors including at least one anti-metabolite agent and at least one early-acting growth factor. Culture conditions are provided, as are therapeutic applications to the treatment of a variety of hematopoietic disorders. | Abstract: | Methods of selecting a population of human cells containing quiescent pluripotent hematopoietic progenitor cells substantially free of mature, human myeloid and lymphoid cells, the quiescent pluripotent progenitor cells obtained by these methods, and methods of using the pluripotent progenitor cells are described. | US Patent Website: | Click Here for Full Text of Patent | Title Number: | US5965437 | Application Number: | US1998000107737 | Date Filed: | 30/06/1998 | Date Published: | 12/10/1999 | Assignee: | Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA, USA |
