Title:Methods for increasing hematopoietic cells
Inventors:Fibbe, Willem E.; Lisse, Netherlands
Grossman, Angelika; Seattle, WA, USA
Summary:This invention describes methods of increasing hematopoietic cells, platelets and erythroctes in a human patient via the administration of bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cells from a human donor who has been previously treated with thrombopoietin in amounts sufficient to stimulate proliferation of cells of the myeloid lineage. Further described are methods of collection and administration of the cells, and circumstances under which the recipient patient may be treated with additional thrombopoietin. Therapeutic applications include allogeneic and autologous transplantation procedures.
Abstract:Methods for increasing hematopoietic cells, including platelets and erythrocytes, in patients receiving bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cell transplants are disclosed. The methods comprise administering to a donor an amount of thrombopoietin sufficient to stimulate proliferation of cells of the myeloid lineage, collecting cells from the donor, and administering the collected cells to a recipient patient. The recipient patient may be treated with additional thrombopoietin. The methods are useful within allogeneic and autologous transplantation procedures.
