Stem Cell Related Patent Number US6033906
Title: | Methods for differentiating neural stem cells to glial cells using neuregulins | Inventors: | Anderson, David J.; Altadena, CA, USA | Summary: | Described herein are methods and materials associated with the differentiation of glial cells produced from neural stem cells that have been cultured with a neuregulin. The invention relates to a process by which populations of mammalian glial cells are produced from contacting at least one mammalian neural stem cell with a culture medium containing a neuregulin. Further disclosed are methods for detecting the differentiation of the stem cells into populations of glial cells. Also provided are properties of the neuregulin, which is identified herein as a ligand for a receptor selected from the group consisting of p185erbB2 and p180erbB4. Therapeutic applications in the treatment of neurological disorders are provided. | Abstract: | Method for producing a population of mammalian glial cells comprising contacting at least one mammalian neural stem cell with a culture medium containing a neuregulin and detecting the differentiation of stem cell to a population of glial cells. | US Patent Website: | Click Here for Full Text of Patent | Title Number: | US6033906 | Application Number: | US1995000372329 | Date Filed: | 06/05/1995 | Date Published: | 07/03/2000 | Assignee: | California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA, USA |
