Title:Recombinant human erythropoietin mutants
Inventors:Sytkowski, Arthur J.; Arlington, MA, USA
Grodberg, Jennifer; Quebec, Canada
Summary:This invention introduces a secretable mutant human recombinant erythropoietin protein exhibiting enhanced biological activity. Further disclosed are properties of the DNA encoding the modified, secretable erythropoietin proteins, and methods for the production of such proteins. Claims of the invention include an improved capacity to regulate the growth and differentiation of red blood cell progenitors when compared to the wildtype recombinant erythropoietin. Specific amino acid residues are provided, as are therapeutic applications of such proteins in the diagnosis and treatment of anemia, erythroleukemias and other hematologic conditions.
