Title:Active retinoic acid-free culture medium for chicken embryonic stem cells
Inventors:Samarut, Jacques; Lyons, France
Pain, Bertrand; Lyons, France
Summary:This invention introduces a novel avian embryonic stem cell culture medium containing cytokines and growth factors but no retinoic acid. Further disclosed are genetically modified cultured cells and nonhuman transgenic mammals derived thereof. The invention relates to a medium for culturing chicken embryonic stem (ES) cells which is comprised of cytokines, fibroblast growth factors, insulin-like growth factors, stem cell growth factors and an anti-retinoic acid antibody, and which is substantially free of active retinoic acid. Therapeutic applications are included for the treatment of human disease by the antibodies produced by such transgenic mammals and other products of the invention described herein.
Abstract:A culture medium for culturing chicken embryonic stem (ES) cells is disclosed. The culture medium is used for supporting avian ES cell cultures. The components of the avian ES cell media include cytokines, fibroblast growth factors, insulin-like growth factors and stem cell growth factors and anti-retinoic acid antibody. The culture medium is substantially free of active retinoic acid. A method for culturing avian ES cells and the resulting products are also disclosed.
