Stem Cell Related Patent Number US6171834

Title:Muri protein from Streptococcus pneumoniae
Inventors:Hoskins, Jo Ann; Indianapolis, IN, USA
Summary:This invention introduces a streptococcus pneumoniae muri protein, methods and uses thereof. Described herein are isolated nucleic acid compounds encoding the stem peptide biosynthetic gene muri of streptococcus pneumoniae. Further disclosed are vectors and transformed heterologous host cells for expressing the muri enzyme product, as well as methods for the identification of compounds inhibiting stem peptide biosynthesis. Therapeutic applications in antibacterial drug screening are provided.
Abstract:The invention provides isolated nucleic acid compounds encoding the stem peptide biosynthetic gene murI of Streptococcus pneumoniae. Also provided are vectors and transformed heterologous host cells for expressing the MurI enzyme product and a method for identifying compounds that inhibit stem peptide biosynthesis.
