Summary:Described herein are drosophila 60A protein morphogenically active fragments, and methods of their use in the induction of tissue morphogenesis. The invention relates to methods of utilizing a morphogenically active fragment of 60A protein to induce tissue morphogenesis and to increase a mammalian progenitor cell population. Further disclosed are methods for stimulating progenitor cells to differentiate and maintain their differentiated phenotype in vivo or in vitro, as well as methods for inducing tissue-specific growth in vivo and methods for the replacement of diseased or damaged tissue in vivo.
