Title:Infusible grade short-term cell storage medium
Inventors:Burger, Scott Robert; Shoreview, MN, USA
Hubel, Allison; St. Paul, MN, USA
McCullough, John Jeffrey; Edina, MN, USA
Summary:This invention introduces an infusible-grade storage medium for mononuclear cells, and which is composed of an electrolyte replenisher base solution and human serum albumin. Claims of the invention include an improved capacity for preserving the viability and function of stem cells, nucleated cells and other hematopoietic cells. The storage medium is described as consisting essentially of stem cells and an aqueous solution of approximately 130 mEq/liter of sodium, 4 mEq/liter of potassium, 109 mEq/liter of chloride, 3 mEq/liter of calcium, 28 mEq/liter of lactate, 5 mEq/liter of glucose, and 1-2% human serum albumin, wherein the storage medium is buffered so that it is maintained at physiological pH, and in which the cells are suspended at a concentration of approximately 1?104 -5?108 cells per ml of medium.
Abstract:An infusible-grade storage medium that is capable of preserving the viability and function of stem cells, nucleated cells and other hematopoietic cells is provided.
