Title: | FGFR3 as a marker for mesenchymal skeletal progenitor cells | Inventors: | Yayon, Avner; Moshav Sitria, Israel
Nevo, Zvi; Herzlia, Israel | Summary: | Described herein are methods of identification of mesenchymal skeletal progenitor cells via the use of an agent that binds to the fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3), identified herein as a novel marker for mesenchymal skeletal progenitor cells. The invention relates to a process of utilizing this novel marker in order to identify and locate mesenchymal skeletal progenitor cells in a tissue, as well as to obtain a substantially pure culture of such cells. Applications include use of the mesenchymal skeletal progenitor cells in a pure culture, and optionally after various manipulations ex vivo, as an active ingredient in pharmaceutical compositions or implants for the purpose of bone and cartilage repair. Further therapeutic applications are included by which FGFR3 may be used as a marker for the identification and the localization of cartilage- and bone-derived tumors. Also provided are agents capable of binding to FGFR3 which may be used for the targeting of cytotoxic agents to cartilage- and bone-derived tumors. | Abstract: | | US Patent Website: | Click Here for Full Text of Patent | Title Number: | US6517872 | Application Number: | US1998000981031 | Date Filed: | 12/06/1998 | Date Published: | 11/02/2003 | Assignee: | Yeda Research and Development Co., Ltd., Rehovot, Israel
