Stem Cell Related Patent Number US6541251
Title: | Pancreatic progenitor 1 gene and its uses | Inventors: | Sarvetnick, Nora; San Diego, CA, USA | Summary: | Described herein is a novel pancreatic progenitor 1 gene and polypeptide, methods and uses thereof. The invention relates to a process by which mammalian pancreatic progenitor 1 nucleic acid compositions may be employed in the use of identifying homologous or related proteins and the DNA sequences encoding such proteins. Further disclosed are means by which compositions may be produced for modulating the expression or function of the proteins, and by which such modulation in turn may be used for prophylactic purposes such as in the identification of cell type based on gene expression. Specific polypeptide sequences are provided, as are therapeutic applications in the treatment of disorders associated with protein defects and in the study of associated physiological pathways. | Abstract: | Methods for isolating pancreatic progenitor 1 genes are provided. The pancreatic progenitor 1 nucleic acid compositions find use in identifying homologous or related proteins and the DNA sequences encoding such proteins; in producing compositions that modulate the expression or function of the protein; and in studying associated physiological pathways. In addition, modulation of the gene activity in vivo is used for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes, such as identification of cell type based on expression, and the like. | US Patent Website: | Click Here for Full Text of Patent | Title Number: | US6541251 | Application Number: | US2001000844497 | Date Filed: | 26/04/2001 | Date Published: | 01/04/2003 | Assignee: | The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA, USA |
