Stem Cell Related Patent Number US6558925

Title:Stem cell inhibitor
Inventors:Graham, Gerard; Glasgow, United Kingdom
Pragnell, Ian; Glasgow, United Kingdom
Summary:This invention introduces novel stem cell inhibitor (SCI) protein variants with amino acid alterations which result in reduced aggregation. The SCI described herein comprises at least one amino acid alteration from its native form which does not significantly aggregate but which retains substantially unaltered stem cell inhibitory activity. The alteration is described as being preferably a conservative substitution of a charged amino acid residue. Specific amino acid substitutions are disclosed. Therapeutic applications in the protection of stem cells in patients undergoing chemotherapy are described.
Abstract:The present invention provides a Stem Cell Inhibitor (SCI) protein which comprises at least one amino acid alteration from its native form which protein does not significantly aggregate but which retains substantially unaltered stem cell inhibitory activity. The alteration is preferably a conservative subsitution of a charged amino acid residue. Such proteins may be used in treating stem cells in a patient undergoing chemotherapy.
