Summary:Described herein are methods of obtaining and expanding a purified population of long-term repopulating hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), and uses thereof. The invention relates to a process of obtaining such a cell population, methods of isolating the HSCs from human hematopoietic tissue, and methods of using a reagent to separate cells that express KDR on their surface (KDR+ cells) from cells that do not express KDR on their surface. Therapeutic applications in the treatment of hematopoietic disorders are included.
Abstract:The invention relates to a methods of obtaining and expanding a purified population of long-term repopulating hematopoietic stem cells. The invention also relates to the uses of a purified population of long-term repopulating hematopoietic stem cells.
