Title:Gene whose expression promotes differentiation of myeloid progenitor cells into neutrophils and/or monocytes/macrophages
Inventors:Schwartz, Richard C.; Haslett, MI, USA
Tian, Qiang; Kenmore, WA, USA
Summary:Described herein are isolated cDNA molecules encoding the human C/EBP Differential Display Product-1 that promotes differentiation of undifferentiated cells, myeloid progenitor cells or hematopoietic cells. The invention relates to a human gene sequence that encodes the CDDP-1 polypeptide, which is involved in cell differentiation, in particular differentiation of undifferentiated progenitor cells into neutrophils, monocytes/macrophages, mast cells, and erythroid cells. Further disclosed are assays for detecting CDDP-1 expression, vectors that express CDDP-1, methods for using CDDP-1 to induce or promote cell differentiation, and transgenic animals deficient in one or both CDDP-1 alleles. Therapeutic applications are included, such as in the treatment of cancer, particularly leukemia.
