Summary:Described herein are methods of detection and isolation of stem cells via a substrate of aldehyde dehydrogenase which is converted to a detectable product. Methods and compounds for isolating stem cells and to suitable reagents are disclosed, including a fluorescent aldehyde dehydrogenase substrate composed of an aminoacetaldehyde moiety bearing a fluorescent BODIPY label. Also provided is a kit comprising the BODIPY aminoacetaldehyde diethyl acetal compound. Therapeutic applications are included, such as in organ transplantation and gene therapy.
Abstract:The present invention relates, in general, to stem cells, and in particular, to a method of isolating stem cells and to reagents suitable for use in such a method. The invention further relates to stem cell populations isolatable in accordance with the present method.
