Stem Cell Related Patent Number US6756036

Title:Methods for treating cancer using PSCA antibodies and fragments thereof
Inventors:Reiter, Robert E.; Los Angeles, CA, USA
Witte, Owen N.; Sherman Oaks, CA, USA
Summary:Described herein is a novel Prostate Stem Cell Antigen (PSCA) protein, which is widely over-expressed across all stages of prostate cancer, including high grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN), androgen-dependent and androgen-independent prostate tumors. Further disclosed is a method for inhibiting the growth of a prostate cancer cell expressing the cell-surface PSCA protein, such that the cancer cell is contacted with an antibody or fragment thereof that recognizes and binds PSCA as shown in SEQ ID NO: 2 in an amount effective to inhibit the growth of the cancer cell. Therapeutic applications are included, such as in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, in the production of vaccines or in the generation of antibodies for use in assays. This invention represents a continuation of additional applications filed by the same assignees and inventors.
Abstract:The invention provides a novel prostate cell-surface antigen, designated Prostate Stem Cell Antigen (PSCA), which is widely over-expressed across all stages of prostate cancer, including high grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN), androgen-dependent and androgen-independent prostate tumors.
