Summary:This invention introduces novel methods for the growth of cells in culture under conditions that promote differentiation, cell survival, and/or cellular proliferation. The invention relates to the culturing of neural crest stem cells (NCSC) in low oxygen conditions to enhance the survival, proliferation or differentiation of NCSC, such that the culture conditions are described as comprising less than 15 percent of oxygen and with mitogen that enhances proliferation or differentiation. Experimental and therapeutic methods of use are included.
Abstract:The present invention relates to the growth of cells in culture under conditions that promote differentiation, cell survival, and/or cellular proliferation. More particularly, culturing neural crest stem cells in low oxygen conditions is described.
