Title:Use of adipsin/complement factor D in the treatment of metabolic related disorders
Inventors:Lucas, John; San Diego, CA, USA
Briggs, Kristen; Del Mar, CA, USA
Summary:This invention describes a novel isolated adipsin polypeptide in the field of metabolic research. The authors address metabolic disorders, such as obesity, which represent a serious and growing public health problem. Certain adipsin polypeptides have been identified which are believed to be beneficial in the treatment of metabolic disorders, and which should be effective for reducing body fat and for lowering circulating glucose, free fatty acids, triglycerides, cholesterol levels, and for increasing glucose oxidation in skeletal muscle. The general treatment of metabolic-related diseases and disorders is discussed, including hyperlipidemias, atherosclerosis, insulin resistance, diabetes, and hypertension.
Abstract:The present invention relates to the field of metabolic research. Metabolic disorders, such as obesity, are a public health problem that is serious and widespread. Adipsin polypeptides have been identified that are believed to be beneficial in the treatment of metabolic disorders. These compounds should be effective for reducing body mass and for treating metabolic-related diseases and disorders. These metabolic-related diseases and disorders include hyperlipidemias, atherosclerosis, insulin resistance, diabetes, and hypertension.
