Title:Antisense compositions and cancer-treatment methods
Inventors:Bartelmez, Stephen H.; Seattle, WA, USA
Iversen, Patrick L.; Corvallis, OR, USA
Summary:Described herein are novel compositions comprising an antisense oligomer directed to the sequence spanning the mRNA translational start codon of the gene, preferentially expressed in stem cells. Further disclosed are methods for treating stem cells with the composition such that the number of lineage committed progenitor cells and their progeny are increased. Therapeutic applications are included, such as the use of these antisense oligonucleotide-treated stem cells in the treatment of cancer.
Abstract:A composition antisense oligomer directed to an mRNA preferentially expressed together with methods for treating stem cells with such a composition to increase the number of lineage committed progenitor cells and their progeny, and/or slow the growth of cancer cells. Also described is the use of such compositions and antisense oligonucleotide-treated stem cells in methods for treatment of cancer.
