Title:Liver stem cell
Inventors:Faris, Ronald A.; Providence, RI, USA
Summary:Described herein are novel isolated liver cell clusters and hepatocyte stem cells, and methods and uses thereof. The invention relates to the isolation of a primary liver stem cell by identifying a cell doublet containing a hepatocytes and the stem cell, and separating the doublet from liver tissue to yield a population of clusters. A cluster is described as consisting of a total of 2 to 5 cells, at least one of which is a stem cell associated with a hepatocyte and wherein the stem cell comprises an OV6 antigen and lacks an OC2 antigen. Therapeutic applications are included, such as in liver transplantation, gene therapy and in extracorporeal liver assist devices.
