Title:Pancreatic progenitor 1 gene and its uses
Inventors:Sarvetnick, Nora; San Diego, CA, USA
Fox, Howard; San Diego, CA, USA
Summary:This invention describes the pancreatic progenitor 1 gene and polypeptide, and uses thereof. Methods for isolating the pancreatic progenitor 1 gene are provided, as are associated nucleic acid compositions and their role in identifying homologous or related proteins and the DNA sequences encoding such proteins. Factors modulating the function of the protein, the expression of gene activity in vivo, and associated physiological pathways are provided. Also included are therapeutic and prophylactic applications in the treatment of disorders associated with protein defects.
Abstract:Methods for isolating pancreatic progenitor 1 genes are provided. The pancreatic progenitor 1 nucleic acid compositions find use in identifying homologous or related proteins and the DNA sequences encoding such proteins; in producing compositions that modulate the expression or function of the protein; and in studying associated physiological pathways. In addition, modulation of the gene activity in vivo is used for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes, such as identification of cell type based on expression, and the like.
