Summary:Described herein is a method of producing a non-adherent population of progenitor cells, in particular pancreatic progenitor cells, via treatment of a suspension comprising progenitor cells with growth factor and proliferating the cells. This invention relates to a substantially pure population of viable pancreatic progenitor cells, and methods for isolating such cells. Further disclosed are therapeutic uses for such progenitor cells and their progeny, especially in the treatment of diabetes.
