Title: | Method of isolating stem cells | Inventors: | Smith, Clayton A.; Tampa, FL, USA
Colvin, Michael; Chapel Hill, NC, USA
Storms, Robert W.; Durham, NC, USA
Ludeman, SUSA n M.; Durham, NC, USA | Summary: | This invention describes a method of detection and isolation of stem cells using a substrate for aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) which is converted to a detectable product. The invention relates to contacting the population of cells with a detectable substrate for ALDH under conditions such that the ALDH present in the cells of the population converts the substrate to a detectable product which is then retained by the cells, such that the cells have a higher concentration of the detectable product than non-stem cells present in the population. The constituents of the substrate are disclosed, which include an aminoacetaldehyde component, as are therapeutic applications in organ transplantation and gene therapy. | Abstract: | The present invention relates, in general, to stem cells, and in particular, to a method of isolating stem cells and to reagents suitable for use in such a method. The invention further relates to stem cell populations isolatable in accordance with the present method. | US Patent Website: | Click Here for Full Text of Patent | Title Number: | US6991897 | Application Number: | US2003000632377 | Date Filed: | 01/08/2003 | Date Published: | 31/01/2006 | Assignee: | Duke University, Durham, NC, USA |
