Title:Active retinoic acid-free culture medium for avian totipotent embryonic stem cells
Inventors:Samarut, Jacques; Lyons, France
Pain, Bertrand; Lyons, France
Summary:This invention describes a culture medium for avian embryonic stem cells which contain cytokines and growth factors but no retinoic acid. Further disclosed are the genetically modified cells and transgenic animals derived thereof. Central to the invention is a culture medium characterized by an absence of retinoic acid while containing elements that are complementary to avian embryonic cells, which include insulin-like growth factors and stem cell growth factors. Resulting transgenic animals and other products of the avian embryonic cells cultured in this manner are provided.
Abstract:A culture medium for avian embryonic cells and an avian cell culture medium is disclosed. The culture medium is characterized in that it has elements complementary to avian embryonic cells. The complementary elements include insulin-like growth factors and stem cell growth factors. The medium is substantially free of active retinoic acid. A method of culturing avian embryonic cells and the resulting products are disclosed.
