Title:Method of determining cytokine dosage for myelosuppressive state
Inventors:Blumenthal, Rosalyn D.; Belleville, NJ, USA
Goldenberg, David M.; Mendham, NJ, USA
Summary:This invention describes a method of adjusting the dose of a myelosuppressive agent to be administered to a patient, involving the measurement of the level of one or more hematopoietic cytokines in a sample from the patient, and the comparison of that level of the hematopoietic cytokine to a normal level. Such kits and procedures for evaluating the myelosuppressive state of a patient provide a useful adjunct for cytotoxic and myelosuppressive therapies. By establishing threshold levels of certain cytokines as a surrogate for myelosuppression, treatment protocols can be optimized to reduce myelotoxicity while simultaneously maximizing dose effectiveness. Precise hematopoietic cytokine and stem cell factor properties are further disclosed.
Abstract:The invention provides kits and methods for evaluating the myelosuppressive state of a patient. These methods and kits provide a useful adjunct for cytotoxic and myelosuppressive therapies. By establishing threshold levels of certain cytokines as a surrogate for myelosuppression, treatment protocols can be optimized to reduce myelotoxicity, while maximizing effective dose.
